The new actors were quite great, too, especially Tange's actor. The returning supporting actors were still great. The acting by Ryoko Yunikura still carries this show. The music editor did the composer a disservice here.īut hey, it's not just all bad. The music had some very noticeable cuts and uneven edits. But the way the music was chopped up and mixed into the scenes were so bad. The composer added a lot of gorgeous music in this season (the vocal version of the main theme and the music during the intro of the rockstar patient for example). The music in Doctor X is one of its best assets, and this show's composer actually upped his game. And finally, one of the greatest flaws of this season: the bad music editing. The cliches also piled up as if an AI was loaded with all the past Doctor X plotlines and the AI made a Doctor X story with its algorithm.

There were some jokes that should have been funny but just fell flat due to the execution ('Oppai!'). The cast was also too big and the show just ended up underdeveloping most of the characters. The gimmicks of this season felt obnoxious: the doctors making a pose or falling down to the floor when a joke is said, the AI effects, the relationship between Daimon and Tange that was ultimately reduced to eyeroll-plagued encounters. And then it hit me: the cinematography was murky and ugly. From the very first few minutes, something was wrong with it, I just didn't know what.

It was such a brilliant season.Īnd then Season 6 came. Season 5 saw the series grow a sense of subtlety, an ability to hold back, to let conflict grow organically and authetically, without ever removing the badassery and the comedy the show's been known for.
